Seed Smoke Treatment

100ml easy pump bottle of liquid Seed Smoke Treatment containing powerful naturally derived chemicals (Karrikins) that help trigger germination of many hard-to-grow seeds, including many Australian Native and South African native seeds.

Simply dilute 1 part Seed Smoke Treatment per 10 parts water (or 10 pumps per 50mls), and soak your seeds overnight before sowing.

Many Australian Native seed species have evolved to remain dormant until exposed to bushfires, specifically the chemical group known as Karrikins that are naturally released by burning wood.

Our Australian Native Seed Smoke Treatment  is a convenient, mess free and easy way  to mimic bushfire conditions and is ideal for home gardeners, native plant enthusiasts, schools and revegetation projects, where large volumes of smoke treatment is not required.

Packaged in a reusable and recyclable 100ml amber glass pump bottle, it's simple to measure exactly the amount you need—no droppers or measuring spoons required.

Why use smoke treatment?

Many Australian native plants have evolved alongside fire. Following a bushfire, naturally occurring compounds in smoke help trigger germination in species that may otherwise remain dormant.

Our liquid smoke treatment is suitable for many smoke-responsive Australian native seeds, including selected species of:

  • Grevillea
  • Banksia
  • Hakea
  • Boronia
  • Some native wildflowers (except everlasting daisies)
  • Other Australian natives that benefit from smoke treatment

Not all Australian native seeds require smoke treatment. Always check the germination requirements for your chosen species.

How much solution does one bottle make?

Each 100ml bottle makes approximately 1 litre of diluted smoke treatment, enough to treat many batches of seed.
